Candlelight and Romance

Nothing creates the feel of romance more than candlelight. Candles are an easy way to decorate for Valentine's day.
But I am here to admit that I rarely light my candles. (GASP!!!)
Sure, if I know I'm going to stay in the same room as the burning candles, I light them up. And we have a tradition of having lit candles every Sunday on our dinner table. But on a normal day, or evening, the only candle you'll find burning in my house is the scented one on the kitchen stove. That's why electric candles make me so happy. In the morning I can flip the switch on, and enjoy the "candle light" without the fear of my home catching on fire.I know there are designers and candle purists out there who would say that the glow looks fake and it's not the same as the real thing. Hey! Since when do we have to listen to the "experts" when decorating our home?!!?
I say if fake candles, fake plants, fake bricks, fake eyelashes, fake whatever, makes you happy,
then
ENJOY it! EMBRACE it! CELEBRATE it!
Being happy with your home depends on YOU,
not on any so called "expert".Now, I will get off my soapbox
and sit and enjoy the glow of my fake candlelight.

Ok...so Darlene already said preach it...I will say Hallelujah! I agree totally. I love the battery ones. I never light my fancy expensive candles, even if I am in the room. It drives my husband crazy - until he sees the price of a new one!! I love your decorations...I bought some of the same "tags".

I adore battery candles as I have been known to forget that I lit a real one. Plus you can put them anywhere. I even did a post on altering the little tea lights for special occasions (or everyday). Pam

I couldn't agree more!

The battery tealights are wonderful! I don't have to worry about the cats knocking them over and burning the house down.

I love the Faux candle too. Much less worry. Long ago I burned candles all over the house...but not anymore. I usually light one on my stove in the kitchen--the stove seems like a safe place...if the candle holder broke, etc.

I say....just do what you want....to heck with the "experts"...they wouldn't be there helping you pick up the pieces if your house burn down, right? :)

Absolutely! If you can't do what makes you happy in your own house, where can you do it? Your decorations are adorable btw.

Amen sister! Funny, I thought that before I saw your first comment! I love candles, the real ones, and I burn them all the time. HOWEVER, sometimes if I have a lot of company involving littles, I think the faux candles are much better. And, if you happen to stay up a bit later than expected, you don't have to worry about them. I also love the fact that you can now get them with built-in timers! How awesome is that? I like them for nitelites and bathroom lights. I basically think they are wonderful.

AND... I also use fake flowers and greenery on occasion. So there.

Have a happy week!

How right you are about being happy with our homes!

I just bought my first set of fake tea lights during after Christmas sales and was thrilled to be able to use them in votives for my 3 year old daughter's tea party. Later that night she turned one of them on and used it on her tea table to have another tea party by herself. So worth the fake glow. :)

I am SOOOOOO with you. It is your home, not a showcase. Whatever makes you comfortable, and your guests comfortable( and it isn't necessarily psychodelic ((sp)) purple peace signs clashing with the neon blue skulls) GO FOR IT! Bring out the things that make you happy each day. A little thought and consideration - and it will work. If someone notices it. they are looking too close! And if they say something! - WELL . . . that goes without saying! Just live, love and enjoy!
ENJOY! Karen

THE NEW FAKE CANDLES ARE GREAT!!

The flicker looks so real and they have the drippings. They are a little expensive, but they last forever!!!!
I love them also!!!

I'm with you on the candle front. I have had some of my candles for years now and haven't burned them once! Of course I also love fake flowers or forever flowers as I prefer to call them! In fact, I just posted about my new FF addition this morning - ha!

I do the same thing! I never light them -- only one on the kitchen window sill every night. :) We have small kiddo hands and three kitty tails and it stresses me out lighting any more. I do light them when we have parties though. Love these!!
