It's Time For The Truth

Okay, it's time for the truth. While things seem pretty and perfect at my blog, the truth is that I've felt "mostly dead" this entire week. Yes, mostly dead from what is likely a sinus infection from breathing in an over abundance of saw dust and paint fumes from this project. And from the reaction to the drug that is supposed to make me feel better.
Why am I telling you this?
First, because it's good to be reminded that even though all of my projects are done in a "well ventilated area" (outside), it's still good to protect myself, and you should protect yourself too.
Meet my new best friend.
I'll look pretty funny. But funny looking is a better choice than mostly dead feeling.
Second, you must see the truth,
the whole truth,
and nothing but the truth.
Sick as could be, I dragged myself out, did a quick, but unfinished paint job on this chair. And an unfinished clean-up of the area, just so I could present a pretty picture to all who care to see.

But I feel bad---not mostly dead bad. I'm actually feeling almost alive again.
But I have been feeling guilty bad. Guilty for adding to the whole notion that we should always give the appearance of pretty and perfect.
When the reality for all of us is that
RARELY is life pretty and perfect.
And to be honest, who wants it to be?
It's the messes in our lives that make us
appreciate the pretty.

It's the mostly dead moments that remind us
to embrace every moment of living.

I fear that the blog world
can be one more place where

we compare the worst in ourselves
to the best in others
.

So today I will tell the truth.
My life is often a mess
and rarely pretty and perfect.

And I love it that way!

thank you for letting us in on the real you. I read these blogs and think what is wrong with me. I want you to know how much I appreciate your blog. This summer is a different one in that I have my 87 year old mother with me and therefore am mostly housebound. My husband is working away from home and only home every other weekend. Anyway I cannot begin to tell you how I look forward to Monday Wednesday and Friday. I feel like I am visiting a friend. Thanks!!!!

That you for this reminder! I haven't blogged for months because I didn't feel like I was at a place to present a "pretty picture." I'm just in survival mode. It's nice to be reminded that none of us are perfect! Hope you feel better soon :)

Hope you feel better soon...I haven't been well this week either. Glad to see you have a normal world, just like me!

AMEN. There have been times I went online to read blogs and cheer up only to feel worse...my ideas aren't creative enough..my home doesn't look like a magazine...my kids run when they see me with the camera... Good to know there are other women out there who feel the same way. Thank you for a great post to remind me of this.

Hugs ~ Angie

p.s. feel better soon!

I hear you... I am light headed from just spray painting a 10 ft. 7 1/2 inch shelf that will hopefully be up on my blog tomorrow. I love your hutch you did, love it! I love even more that your blog is so popular and you advertise that you are LDS and from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day saints! me too! ;)

AMEN!!!! Well said. Sometimes it's ok to focus on the positive and let the negative go by the wayside. But getting back to reality is just that reality. Thanks for for that reminder to us. You are HUMAN we all are-HUMAN! Take care. Glad you aren't hospitalized because of the fumes.

Your hutch is gorgeous. I am now on a hunt for one too. It is just what I need for my back patio. I don't know why I didn't think of that.

Reality Check!! Thanks!! I am so flawed it's not even funny :) But I have to laugh anyway!

I am glad my family knows and accepts me, flaws and all!

Love the hutch! It looks great! I'm sorry you got sick working so hard on it, but it is beautiful!

Have a great and relaxing weekend!

Hey, Joy, I know, it's not always perfect is it? With any of us. I'm guilty of taking selective photos, but really & truly things aren't all together at all times. None of us have it all together either. Feel better!

My life is much more messy than perfect. I don't mind. I'll confess that I often move piles of clutter around the room to take better pictures.

Hope you feel better!

that hutch is gorgeous & makes me want it. Great job on your projects. Sorry you've been sick. I hope you're all better soon.

You are SO right...I strive for that perfection, but it never can be found! Thanks for the reminder that I don't really need it!

Praying that you feel better quickly. Blessings!

Thanks for the honestly. It's refreshing! I too have been sick from paint fumes before, although not as bad as you! I LOVE/ADORE/COVET that piece of furniture BTW. Awesome. Hope you feel better soon and thanks for your advice on my pillow sitch. I am sprinkling blue around the rooma and you know what? I am so energized by the color it's like I've been set free! I LOVE it!

Eesh, I hate sinus infections! Hope you're feeling better soon!!

Totally agree with you! From day one I like to show the clutter I sometimes deal with or the rooms that don't look quite picture perfect. No one wants to read a blog they can't relate to, do they? Finding a connection in someone is what brings them coming back for more. :)

Thank you for this post...you really put it all into perspective regarding the whole comparison thing in blogging. So very true indeed. Hope you feel much better soon. Enjoy your weekend!

Bless your heart! I hope you're feeling better soon. You need a Neti pot. It's disgusting to use (do it in the shower with the door locked-you do not want anyone to see this), but it will make you feel amazing. Every time I spray paint something, I make sure I use it to get the gunk out.

Well said! I hope you feel better soon! Take care when spraying the paint....I dont do it at all, I let someone else do it for me...too dangerous! ~Cindy~

As for perfect, who would want that? Perfect would take the fun out of life.

{hugs} hope you're feeling ALIVE again real soon! I LOVE reading your blog and seeing your projects, and thanks for keeping it all real. It's easy to get lost in all the wonderful blogs and think everyone has such an easy beautiful life but us - you are right, it's the messes in our lives that makes us who we are!!

Take Care!

Ah, this is what I love about your blog. :) I feel like you are a real person, with real messes and real beauty. Thanks for sharing!

I couldn't agree with you more. Sometimes I think that we look at blog world and think-man, she is perfect-wish I was more like her. (and yes, I know we all talk just like that)
It's nice to realize I am not the only one who feels this way!
Love the hutch. I am super jealous. I am off to ksl-I am bound and determined to find a hutch for my kitchen
