I came across a photo of what our fireplace looked like when we moved into our home. How's this for a "before" photo.Yes, we had our own rock climbing wall. Our boys loved climbing those rocks! However, they weren't too fond of having to pull the rocks off the wall and haul them into our yard when I decided to remodel the fireplace. But thanks to my hubby and sons hard work, we have an "after" to be proud of.Joy @ JOYSOFHOME

Wow, that's a transformation. My husband is advocating for us to have an "inside" climbing wall. Uh, no, I don't think so :)
Wow, your own rock climbing wall! I can just imagine, "Joey, stop climbing the fireplace and get your brother in". : ) I love the "after"; the red looks great and I love how you did your mantle. Did you make the moss topiaries? Very nice!
Oh my! what a great "before". You all did a fabulous job on the transformation of that fireplace!
I have the world's ugliest fireplace that I have been wanting to give it a makeover, but I don't think I have it in me to REMOVE all the old bricks, and concrete mantel.

What a great before and after! Looks like a lot of fun! ;)
Love the rock climbing and love the transformation. We once had such a wall and I am surprised that my guys NEVER thought to do that!
What an amazing transformation!
I'll bet they will miss that climbing wall, but the transformation is a big...WOW!!
I love that photo of the boys climbing the fireplace! Hilarious. I have two boys so I can relate. :)
Beautiful transformation! Your boys are so handsome! We used to climb out "rock fireplace" too. Oh, the memories!
What a wonderful transformation! I'm getting ready to paint our mantle white.
Looks so great! We have a similar fireplace, only it is on a curved wall. I wouldn't know how to replace that???
I love the after! The photo of your boys climbing on the rocks is hilarious!
That is the funniest "before" picture I've ever seen! But also what a transformation!
Happy Friday!
I have that same rock fireplace. Our home is 30yrs. old (we only moved in last year) I despised it when we first bought the place, but i've grown used to it now.... I'd love to redo it but don't even know how to begin taking those boulders down! :) tutorial please!
Yes you most certainly do! The after is beautiful!
Joy, that picture is too funny! Love the difference!
SO much better now that it's gone! The before pic was a hoot! Fantastic re-do! :-D (see, what did I tell you...panache..) ♥
Nice! We had a brick fireplace upstairs that we completely knocked out and covered up with wall board, and then we have that same river rock fireplace downwstairs that we want to redo, too. Great job! Hopoe ours looks a nice as yours! :)
That is really a funny before picture.
Just checking in with everyone and to give an update.
I have a new party starting- Wed Sept 2. So each week I will have the Knock Off Knock Out party on Mondays and the Holiday/Seasonal party on Wed. I hope you come for a visit.

Joy, the before photo is priceless and the after is just stunning! Thanks for sharing!
Best wishes,

Ah, the rock wall fireplaces of yesterday. That picture says it all. I just visited one in Provo the other week, too. Lovely but, erm, dated. Quite.
Your new fireplace is sweet!
Thats hysterical!!!!
I just came across this post, and even though it's older, I am curious to know how you got all that rock down. Our fireplace is EXACTLY the same, with the rocks and hearth that juts out two extra feet. It's hideous. How in the world did you get all of it down?
