My mom started teaching me when I was about 12 and it's been a passion of mine ever since. Glad you decided to tackle it once more, and with your good results you'll be encouraged to try more!Gaylehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04466709417592027635noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6858086016338707817.post-47114217109372977602009-08-01T10:58:26.088-06:002009-08-01T10:58:26.088-06:00Bravo!

My original major in college...Let me tell you, Joy,
My original major in college was home economics (fashion merchandising) and those old maid professors were something else. When we took cooking class, the professor chopped up our muffins to measure whether or not we stirred too much and stretched the glutin.... And then we learned to sew and had to press and cut out all our pattern pieces BEFORE cutting them out of muslin and then fitting them to our bodies BEFORE we cut out the fabric cause the seams HAD TO BE 5/8 inches all the way down. It was CRAZY and I promptly changed my major!!!! After all, what's the purpose of a seam allowance other than to allow some give and take?? You are doing just fine, believe me!!!Terrihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13675951016626673904noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6858086016338707817.post-63820542059930889942009-07-31T17:24:41.711-06:002009-07-31T17:24:41.711-06:00I can relate to the dreaded HOME Ec class! We need things done on our own terms, no rules, just freedom of creativity, you should be graded on effort! Thanks for the flash back! I know just what you mean about...You are SO RIGHT! I know just what you mean about steering clear of something unless you were certain you could do it "right." I, too, was a mess in Home Ec, and hated every bit of the sewing component. It's sad, because now I wish that I'd gotten a degree in Home Economics--that sounds really useful to me! But it does give you a real feeling of accomplishment to make something, doesn't it? And no one's grading us but ourselves. Amen, amen, amen. Thank you for writing this--so many women read your blog, and I hope they'll all be influenced by this!

By the way, your pillows look great!Richella Parhamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04353214472648623583noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6858086016338707817.post-72798924208714245422009-07-31T11:31:44.053-06:002009-07-31T11:31:44.053-06:00I used to sew a lot but no longer....your cushions...I used to sew a lot but no longer....your cushions look fantastic...love the colors. IF I am speaking at a show, I iron (if I was stuipd and bought the wrong outfit).

I have larned that my son LOVES his elmo pillows I made him....and I didnm't press a single seam or even MEASURE, I just used remnant elmo fabric. I also find i don't mind that he chews on the edge of them...bc I didn't make them so perfect.

Enjoy those seats and know those imperfect cushions means you won't care when someone spills KoolAid on them!
