Look at these beauties I found at the thrift store!
I bought the only two they had.
If there were four,
I would have used them as legs for a table.
But there were only two,
so now those stair balusters
are huge candle holders!
My hubby added the base and molding.
I could do it, (just not as fast).
But he likes to call this OUR blog,
so he helps me build things.
He thinks you should know that those two candles
used to be one giant crooked candle
that I bought for $1.
I let it sit out in the heat of the sun.
When it was warm and soft,
I rolled it like dough to get it straight.
Then I used the compound miter saw to cut it in two.
Hubby said, "You never cease to amaze me
what you will cut with that saw. A candle??? Wow!"

Oh you didnt!!! You just gave me another idea.. I was looking for some candle sticks large like that but I couldnt spend that much . Thank you Miss Joy!!! Im so going to try this... happy..happy day!

ReplyDeleteGo to the bottom of MY BLOG, and see if you can do with those posts...besides candleholders! I try to pick these up EVERYWHERE...not easy to find, and I have resolved myself to cutting up Headboards and Footboards of discarded/cheap beds!
Love the WHoLe thing about crooked candles, sunlight, and MAN-TOOLS! My own hubby is amazed at what I can come up with from cans we ate dinner out of! LOL!

ReplyDeleteWow, what a great idea. They look amazing. You would have paid a ton for those in the little boutiques here. The best part is that your hubby helped you. My hubby will help, but I have to wait for a while until he has time. Enjoy his willingness to get crafty with you.
ReplyDeleteI don't have the space for giant candlesticks as far as scale would dictate, but I love the idea! I have warmed and rolled crooked candles often - and used a huge drill bit to scoop out enough to fit a plain glass votive holder or a tea light - this worked really well for decorating for our church when our budget didn't allow for frequent candle replacements! Power tools are our friends, right?
ReplyDeleteI had a good day at the Goodwill on Monday - but I have yet to transform my fantastic finds! I can't even take the 'before pictures' because we need batteries - we stole them from everywhere during our time without power! We are usually be better prepared - Ike's windy gift caught us off guard!
I long for more time to re-purpose - you have given me so many great ideas, but this is a busy season of life! I don't get much time with homeschooling during the day and it is getting dark too early to spray paint after supper, baths and bedtime - I'll have to try to squeeze it in at lunchtime!
I was wondering if you spray paint the harp when you paint a lamp - I bought two lamps that are the same tall buffet lamps for $2 each but they are different colors and one has a harp and one doesn't. The harp is bright cheap brass and I am planning to paint the lamps chocolate brown and then fleck them with bronze (totally taking your lead!). What do you think?

ReplyDeleteMan, and I've been on the lookout for tall chunky candlesticks like that for the mantle! My bookcases on either side of the fireplace are so tall that I really need some heighth on the mantle. Great job, and I love the candle idea, what a money saver! ~Becky~

ReplyDeleteI have some balusters exactly like these that I got from my husband's grandmother's house. She lives in a very old house and I think they came off the outside railing. My husband made me some lamps out of them and they turned out so good. I am going to copy your candleholders - LOOOOOVE THEM!!!
