Summer's End

I love this time of year!
Fall is definitely my favorite season.
It's a great time to shop for closeout bargains
on summer accessories.
Look at these nice weatherproof wicker chairs
I bought for 75% off.
They ended up costing $16.50 each. I couldn't pass that up,
especially since they go so well
with the set I already have.
I've started to get out my fall decorations.

    The chairs came from Big Lots.

    The painting is by Ned Young.
    I love his art! I have several of his signed pictures, mostly seasonal ones, that I bring out just at that certain time of year.

    Love the chairs. Don't you love Big Lots? It's a fun store to wonder around in.

    And I love your finial at your front door. I saw them on clearance at WalMart for $6 and am trying to decide if they would look good in front of my house.

    I love your black topiary thingee on your porch and I always love looking at the changes you do for your mantel. I had a white mantel like that in my old house, I loved it...and miss it!

    I am a wee bit jealous on the wicker chairs ... I will recover! :o) I love all the colors you are using! Isn't fall such an awesome time of the year? The black cone shaped object on your porch look like something that is on clearance at WalMart and I have (nearly) begged my husband for. :o)

    Hi,

    I had a question to ask you about one of your previous blog posts, but couldn't find an email address or a "contact me."

    I wanted to ask a couple of questions about spray painting your cabinets! I guess I'll just ask here! :)

    Were your cabinets wood/MDF? I ask because while mine are, I believe the side of the very outer cabinet has a veneer, and I wasn't sure if that would accept paint. I could sand the wood/MDF portions, but not sure about the side.

    I'm sure I'm not describing this very well. These aren't laminate cabinets at all, but I noticed that for some reason, the end side looks more like a veneer sheet that is made to look like the cabinets.

    Gari-Ann,
    The cabinets throughout my home are wood, with a wood veneer layer on the door and drawer fronts. My home was built in 1980 so it was a cheap way to make it look like solid oak.
    The wood veneer painted just the same as the solid wood. I've painted some of my cabinets with spray paint and others were painted by brushing on latex paint.
    Just be sure to give your cabinets a thorough cleaning with a degreaser. Then do a good sanding. I usually use a medium grit paper. You do not have to sand them bare, just enough to make them a little rough. Sanding opens the pores of the wood so that the paint will adhere better. Wipe them down really well and you're ready to paint.
    Then give them a couple of coats of paint and be sure to be gentle with them for a few days until the paint cures.

    I think those chairs may be the same ones I got for $20 at Target. You got a little bit better bargain than I did. LOVE your arrangement with the frame on your front door and the other decorations also. Can't wait to see more!!!
