Today I'll be trying to catch up on a few projects. I'll be applying a paste wax to my new table. I used regular brush on latex paint so to help give it a hard finish, I like to rub in some wax. It will help protect it from cars being driven across it and shoes and bottoms being plopped on it.Many of you asked me the color. It was an oops paint. Saturday, I ran to the H Depot to see if I could find a close match. I am sorry to say that there wasn't one. The closest thing I could tell you is that it's a muddied version of Lemon Grass.
When it gets a little warmer, this afternoon, I'll be spray painting this:Yes, it's also made from an old door. I'll be changing the color to a nice satin black (big surprise!). It will be going in my youngest son's room along with some other pieces of furniture that I'll be painting this week. Hopefully the weather will stay in the sixties so I can get a lot accomplished!
Oh my goodness! I love that old door bookshelf! It is amazing! Sure wish I was handy with power tools.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you've got a busy day ahead. Have fun completing your projects.
ReplyDeleteI have many to do, also...but I still need to recover more from my attack last Monday...so I can stand on my feet to do them...and climb a ladder (painting chairs and walls!)

Well, great minds must think alike LOL. I just picked up a can of the finishing wax yesterday. I've never tried it before but it's my new favourite thing.
ReplyDeleteLove seeing all your creative door projects. Hope the weather co-operates for your painting today.
Have a great day! :)
O.k., I thought the door coffee table was my favorite thing you have ever done and now you have topped that. Now this door shelf piece is my favorite! I LOVE IT!!! I have seen similar pieces like this before and wanted one. My husband brought home an old screen door he found in someone's trash so I may try to copy you and use it that way. I just have to find somewhere to put it in my house! Thanks for the awesome and doable (is that a word?) ideas!
ReplyDeleteI've been wondering about wax for furniture! Now I know what to go get. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever idea. Love your door projects.
ReplyDeleteCool piece for you boys room.
ReplyDeleteOMGoodness... I just happened upon your blog... And it ROCKS!!! You are definitely a very talented lady. I love your ideas...
ReplyDeleteI will visit you often... thank you for sharing your style.
Blessings 2 You on this AuTuMn DaY, Pamela
That shelf is awesome. I NEEEEEDDD to go look for some old doors.
ReplyDeleteI am jealous of all of your old doors! I love the coffee table! I need one! Where have you found all of your old doors? I have a bunch of old windows. Want to trade? :)
ReplyDeleteI have never done the wax. Is there a certain kind and any tricks on how to do it? So did you make the large peice out of the door as well. It looks skinnier than a regular door, did you cut it?

ReplyDeleteThat is soo cool! I can't wait to see it in black!
ReplyDeleteYou are so clever. How do you think these things up? Love that little shelf thing. Mimi
ReplyDeleteLove the door bookshelf. Just may have to make one for my son's house. He has been wanting a regular bookshel, and this would be a great idea. Pull out some of those old doors out back. Jackie
ReplyDeleteYou seriously have the best ideas for old doors ever! I love the green color. I want to run out and find a ton of old doors. Where do you find all yours?
ReplyDeleteLove your table. I need some wax for a desk I just painted and distressed. It was a vaneer executive desk that I bought at a garage sale. I painted it a medium brown, used elmer's glue, then a topcoat of a taupy yellow color. It crackles and the brown shows through. I sanded some spots so more brown is showing. I then used a glaze over it all. I need something to protect it, though.
ReplyDeleteOh I love the door coffee table!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous idea. Very creative
ideas. I am new to blogging I would
love to do the 6 special things
arounf my home.

Looking forward to seeing the next pieces. I love the green on the coffee table.
ReplyDeleteI really love your site. It boosts my creativity every time I come. I too have a door in my living room. I got it out of a burn pile for a dollar. She was going to burn it, but charged me a dollar. Oh well!! It had insulation glued to both sides and I sanded it, stained it and hung my girls baby pics on it. Very cute. Some of my visitors will ask "where does that door lead?" (hahah)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great use for an old door! Love it!
ReplyDeletewow i love that so much i may just need to go out and make one! love it love it love it!!!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the door you'll be putting in your sons room. I've been toying with the idea of doing a door computer stand. Maybe one day.~~Ellen
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday! Thanks for sharing - I love the green. It is perfect even if it is an oops color!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I will NEVER see the oops paint the same way again!
ReplyDeleteLOVE that door shelf! I just simply fell in love with it.
You're lucky, we don't live close, otherwise, I would have kidnapped it! :)
Thanks for the tip on wax. I learned something new today.
Can't wait to see your next creations! xoxo
I can't wait to see the finished bookshelf. I know that it will look great is satin black.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to know that I'm not the only one that likes the Oops paint.
You are so unbelievably talented! I love the bookshelf thingy made out of an old door...ingenious. I'm also digging that red shutter in the background. It would look fab in my boys' room. Thanks for the wonderful ideas!
ReplyDelete~Amanda
Pretty, pretty, pretty! I hope you get all of your "to-dos" accomplished! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteMan...I am totally in love with the new piece you're getting ready to paint. Can't wait to see the finished product!
ReplyDeleteM.L.
Okay...we all need close ups of that door/bookshelf/secretary???
ReplyDeleteThat would look Teeeriffic in my new house.
Not that I am up for any more painting today!
Hey Joy! I use my hot glue gun when recovering lampshades. It works good. I always read about using spray adhesive to do them, but I don't like getting so sticky and the terrible fumes. I guess I'd rather get burned by the glue gun!
ReplyDeleteI adore that bookshelf! I have seen ones like that for big bucks...you should sell these! Good luck with all your painting...wishing you warm temps. cherry
ReplyDeleteI love the door shelf/desk. What a great piece!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness!!!! My dear friend you are amazing!!!! I love it so much. I even love it with that color. Kinda cottage looking. Im sure it will look great in black as well. Your son is just too darn lucky. Would you want to share your secret on how you made that beauty? If not thats ok too... I will just drooooooollllll all over it. Hello darling! Im really in love with this door/shelf/amoire...BEAUTIFUL... my dear!
ReplyDeleteFantabulous! I love the color of the door. I haven't ever used the wax before, but my son's furniture is black with a wax on top. I love it and want to so something similar in my other 2 kiddo's room when they get out of their cribs. Gorgeous job!
ReplyDeleteThat is sooo cool! I love projects like that.. where they are quick and easy.. and you feel SOOO accomplished!
ReplyDeleteYou are really creative. I love that you can see past the piece's prior life and give it new life in a whole new way. Plus your choices of color are great!
