Small Room, Small Touches

I love a linen closet full of pretty, white towels! It makes me smile every time I open the closet door. However, I don't really enjoy having white towels adorning my towel rods. Because my bathroom colors are very neutral, I like to bring in an accent color using towels. I change the towel color depending on the season, month, or my mood. For January I had an aqua towel with a brown towels along with a little aqua colored snowflake in the windowsill. I use those same brown towels during the fall months with along with deep red towels. The red towels work for Christmas and Valentine's day too. I don't need a bunch of different colored towels, just a few basic colors that can be mixed together for different combination's of color.
If you don't want to change your towels, then change the accessory that sits on the counter or shelf. Try tying a pretty seasonal ribbon around a towel or accessory. Look! I even hung a few Valentine's hearts on the shower curtain using fancy paper clips. At Christmas time I do this same thing with jingle bells.

You may think this is a bit odd, but I think that the bathroom is the one room where you have to sit for a while during your busy day, so why not change the decorations in it, the way you do the more public places in your home? Go ahead! Freshen things up, make your bathroom a pretty place, and have fun decorating it just as you do other rooms in your home.

  5. Missy,
You might notice that the lighter towel, the one with the decoration, is usually in the middle. I've told my men that they need to use the hand towel next to the sink, or the towels on each side. They know that the pretty one in the middle needs to stay pretty. "Please don't use it for wiping."
Yeah, it works most of the time, but not always. It's a good thing that towels are washable!

  14. Cute ideas! I like those little touches that make a big splash.

My grandmother use to hang REALLY PRETTY towels in the hall bathroom. We would be scolded if we used the fancy company towels to dry off. Jeez....how's an 8 year old supposed to know about fancy towels....LOL!

  18. Thank you Joy for such inspirations! I love that I can click & enlarge the pictures to see the details. 2+ questions. 1) Did you spray a column of blue glitter along side of the window next to the blue snowflake? 2) Where do you put the towels that are used after the shower? Is it a one time towel use & it goes in a hamper afterwards? What a left brain question amidst your creativity! ;)

  30. I am in total agreement!!! Whenever I am "bored" with my house, the bathroom is the first room I "re-decorate." Even something as simple and basic as a new shower curtain can make me feel happy.

  35. I LOVE that you decorate the bathroom!! Since you are the queen of painitng, I am going to pick your brain (if you don't mind) if I had to guess, I would guess you painted your bathroom cabinets....if so, what kind of paint did you use AND were your cabinets all wood or were the sides wood laminate as all the builders love to use these days? Any advice is greatly appreciated :)

  37. How have the spray painted bathroom cabinets held up. I am tempted to do mine too, but it being the main bathroom of the house and with 6 kiddos, I don't want to have to re-do it in 6 months. What would you reccomend now that you've had them for a while?
