Occasional Glimpses

The other night I walked through our darkened home. I walked into the family room and turned on the lights. Their glow brought enough light that I needn't turn on any others. As I finished up in the kitchen I turned and looked into lit the family room.
At that moment I got a glimpse, a still shot, like a photo in a magazine. The room was far from magazine perfect. Pillows and toys were strewn across the floor, which needed a good vacuuming. All of the surfaces needed to be dusted, but still I got that glimpse that happens on occasion.
I stood to take it all in.
Along with the glimpse came a feeling of reverence.
This is our home. Ours.
We are the ones responsible for making it a place of comfort. It is a place where laughter abounds,
where friends are welcome.
A haven for memories.
A shelter from the storms of life.
A sanctuary for our family.
I stood in awe as I thought of how
our hands have created many of it's contents.
This is the same room I pass through dozens of times each day
but at that moment it felt different.
It seems that I get so busy with the day to day that
I lose sight of the wonderful details that are my life
. So when those occasional glimpses occur I try to take it all in,
cherish
the moment,
appreciate
what has been revealed to my soul
and express gratitude for the blessings I have been given.

For I am truly blessed.

  3. What a sweet post!! WE do forget to "stop and smell the roses" to often. Like decorating, for all the complaining we women do about our bodies..I think if we stop and think about the power of our "tools" that our body offers....we are in awe!! Thanks!

  4. Yes, you are blessed! Your home is so beautiful...I love your white collection! I often, when alone in the evenings walk through my home and thank the Lord for everything he has given to me to enjoy. Comparitively, we live simply...but to me, it is a mansion!

  8. What a tender mercy God gave you! Thank you for sharing. It always helps to hear from another woman and remind us of all our blessings. You have a lovely home with lovely things but I think it is you as a mother, wife, decorator, nurse etc that really makes it a home. Thank you.

  18. Your home is beautiful. And, yes, it is a home (not a house). I expect it is the people who live there that we can call it a "home".
Home is where the heart is they say.

  23. Having a place to call home is indeed a blessing.
Your home seems to be a place of comfort and very welcoming.
Our homes should be great big hugs for our families when they walk in the door; a refuge from lifes storms and a place where friends feel most welcome. You've accomplished that !
    Have a wonderful day.

  24. This is such a beautiful post and you put into words what I often feel. I know that sometimes I get bogged down in the details and want to tweak something to make it that much better, but I would like to have this attitude more often. Forget that, I will have these thoughts more often. Wonderful and heartfelt post.

  26. We really are blessed in so many ways. I have at least one lit tree in my home at all times. I have a pink one for my breast cancer collection of little gifts that mean the world to me. I blended that white tree with the pink Valentine decors. I light it in the am on my way to the kitchen and I darken it on my way to bed. Many people ask why I still have a tree up (these are the people that don't know me well) and I say it is what grounds and calms me. It is all in the eye of the beholder. And you have a great way of sharing and showing us your grounding and calming areas. thanx!
