Candles and Pantries

When decorating with candles and their holders
do you get frustrated?Does your candle sit a little skiwampus in your hurricane?
Does it look too lonely and bland in it's container?Well the solution is as close as your pantry!
Simply pull out sacks of rice, beans or peas.Dump the dry food goods into the candle holders
and watch your frustration melt away.
I like to use rice, green or yellow split peas,
black, white or kidney beans.I've used epsom salt too.
If you're a coffee drinker you can use coffee beans.
There are several frugal food choices for fillers
right in your own kitchen.
Which ones have you used?

  3. I've used salt at Christmas and added a little sparkley white glitter. My DIL used split peas at her reception. I like the black bean idea!

  5. I've done black beans around Halloween and cranberries at Christmas. I think the cranberries smell good when they get warm. Oh, and cinnamon imperial hearts at Valentine's day. They smell FAB.
    Great post.

  6. I use this idea too. My home is filled with lots of earthy colors so one I use a lot is a dry bean soup mix. It's a mixture of beans and the colors are great with my decor.
At Christmas time I like using cranberries.
Other times I use candies like m&m's.
In the summer I usually use sand...not from the pantry but still a good filler.
I've never thought of the epsom salt...good one!
    Thanks for sharing,

  8. I have used all of the ones you have used (including just about every kind of dry bean in the store)...have also used red hots, candy corn, valentine conversation hearts candy. I have also used play sand (comes in the bigger bags form home improvement stores or Walmart), much less expensive than the little bags at the craft store.

  9. You all have such great additions to the list! And since we're going beyond the pantry, I've also used shelled nuts, acorns, and horse chestnuts (is that what they're called?---the ones you shouldn't eat). Marbles and dominoes are fun too!

  10. So help out a less crafty follower here. I need a great low profile idea for table centerpieces for a 50th anniversary party. I'm planning to use gold as much as possible but we are also having Texas BBQ and a dance so it should be a little less formal. Any great ideas?
