A few months ago the people with KILZ
Years ago hubby and I added trim and crown molding to this cabinet to dress it up and hide the imperfections from it's original contractor build. I then painted the original sad looking oak a beautiful dark green with copper highlights.
Wanting to freshen it up with a lighter paint color KILZ Clean Start was the perfect product since it's always good to use a primer when painting a lighter color on top of a darker.
Priming first means less top coats and less chance of shadowing or bleed-thru from the darker paint.
The KILZ went on smooth and there was hardly any odor. . . No, the KILZ people did not pay me to say this. They gave me a gallon of paint and I'm giving you my honest opinion about it.
I'm really happy with the china cabinet's new look!

I have a few projects I need to use some Kilz on - including my bathroom ceiling - great way to block out the moisture. I would love to try this out.
ReplyDeleteI will be moving in a few months, and absolutely none of my furniture matches. My first project would be my coffee/end tables in the living room, and long dresser I plan to convert to a media cabinet.
ReplyDeleteI'd used Kilz to paint over my daugther's icky brown walls (it was previously a boy's room - so you can imagine!)and give her a hot pink polka dot wall with the other 3 walls being a lemon color! It would match her spunky personality perfectly :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great makeover Joy! Love the new look. Please enter me in the Kilz giveaway. I'd use it on my oval writing desk, a 6 legged table that has a damaged top surface and a chest of drawers that all need makeovers! It would give them all a new lease on life.

ReplyDeleteI love Kilz. That being said, I am a little skeptical about this product. We tried a different companies low VOC paint and we HATED it! The first coat went on and we thought the paint was defective. The second coat looked better, but we still weren't thrilled.

ReplyDeleteAbout eight years ago, I worked doing home rehabs, where I was introduced to Kilz .. now, well I won't do any type of painting without it. To narrow it down to one specific project I have in mind this year - well can't do that. I will be refinishing my stairs, painting my two filing cabinets, and refinishing my dining room chairs. Kilz will be used in ALL of these projects! :)

ReplyDeleteI'd like to use Kilz to prime an inexpensive unfinished entertainment center. They used different kinds of wood which makes it look very sloppy, so a stained finish won't work. Kilz ought to even it all out so my cobalt blue will look stellar.
ReplyDeleteI love Kilz primer and paint. I used lots and it compared to Benjamin Moore !! Then WalMart stopped carrying it and I can't find it in Albuquerque. Boo Hoo. I have lots of projects to paint including a curio cabinet, night stand & dresser.

ReplyDeleteI have a couple of projects calling my name. the first being the dresser in my little guys room, and the island in my kitchen would be so fun to makeover. (or at least it would be fun AFTER it was madeover.)
ReplyDeleteI painted The bottom of my dining room and my Island in the Kitchen a dark cranberry. But I'm Finding it is to dark. The top is a yellow with a hint of green. I would love to try the primer so I can paint it over the cranberry to lighten up the space. With a soft Green.
