Go Big or Go Home

Okay, first I'll give you a project update, the item has been assembled! However, I'm not sure how much I'll be able to do today because the weather has turned COLD and I'm feeling a bit crummy because of some dental work I had done.

In the meantime, I'll show you one of the projects we completed on Saturday. See this little light in my stairwell. It came from the PB outlet years ago. I liked it when I bought it. But it sat for about two years waiting to be put up (I'm not kidding). Once it was up, I really didn't like it. It was too small for the space and after two years, it wasn't really my style any more. So I began my search for a replacement. Luckily, a year or so later, I found one at the thrift store. Don't laugh, but this one took about a year before it was finally put into place. Can you tell that my husband isn't fond of heights? Fortunately, for my husband, I still like this one. Actually, now that it's finally hung, I like it even more. This beauty is an antique brass, even though the picture makes it look like a shiny brass. It's huge and fits the space perfectly.

You know what they say, "go big or go home."

  4. That does fit the space better. :-)It's live and learn with me and decorating my home. More than once I've brought something home I liked that just didn't "go" with the house. Luckily, I'm married to a patient man! LOL

I've been lurking here for a while; you have a lovely home and wonderful ideas.

  9. Lurker here. I have a similar light over the staircase. my problem is that it is virtually inaccessible due to the positioning over the stairs and the 90 degree turn 4 steps up. I love that you found your new fixture at a thrift store. Do you mean like a GoodWill?

But you're scaring me how long it took to get the first light up - I have a vanity light for our bathroom that so far has been sitting for 3 months......it BETTER not take my dh 2 years to get it up! LOL

  14. I like the first light but I do agree that it was too small for the space. I do think the new one fits better. I have an award for you at my blog.

  15. Love it - but what did you do with the cute little one, because I love it too?

  16. LOL! I just took one down that is just like your new one. Yours looks very good in your space and lights up so well! I think ours was a tad smaller. I love how yours looks on the stairwell.

  17. Okay, so I see that others have already offered but I would love that PB light fixture. Are you thinking of selling it? And you have to know that I am so excited now. We have a stairwell with that very large, high wall that is hard to reach. There is a tiny little light fixture up there but I honestly haven't given much thought to this space other than 'how in the world am I going to paint that'. Now - I am so excited to try this with a hanging light like yours! Let me know if you are interested. Thank you for the great idea!!

  18. Well, I love the saying, "Go big or Go home."-- It can be suited for many occasions, huh?

I agree, bigger was better in this case. Although, I do love the look of the smaller one. Have you found a home for it yet??

  19. very cool. I hate dental work. I've not got dental problems today, just a cold. I'm in my puppy slippers as I type.

  23. That size does look better! It's so hard for me to get scale right when shopping for our house. I've been surprised by how much bigger or smaller things look when they are actually in my house instead of in a store or showroom.

I'm a big procrastinator, too! I can't say that I would get a fixture up any faster than you did!

  24. That's my motto too..Go big or go home! Looks great!

  25. That one's a much better size. Love the PB light!

  26. Although PB is my all time favorite store in the whole wide world, I agree (reluctantly) that it was too small for the space. Your new one definitely fits the space much better.

  27. Joy, take a look at my last post. There is something there for you. Take care!!!

  28. Hi Joy! the new fixture makes a huge difference (no pun intended). The larger one fits the space nicely.
I feel better about my own lighting dilemma. I have a weakness for vintage light fixtures and bought two glass ones close to two years ago for super cheap (less than five bucks each).
Anyways, I finally got around to spray painting the metal parts of one so I could install it in my porch. Well, sounds simple enough but the old screws don't work with the new (old) one and I keep buying new ones hoping they'll fit but "no". It's driving me crazy. Everytime I change out a light fixture I run into the same problem. One day I'll solve my problem.
Thank goodness I don't have to climb up as high as your hubby. I'm sure I would have fallen off the ladder by now.

  29. Hilarious!! I love that you are honest about how long it sat there. I have some things sitting around too, and now I feel better!
