A Regal Pair

I've been trying to get some spring rearranging done. I love to rearrange things to help motivate me to clean and dust. The shelves in our office/computer room are in need of a new look, so I emptied everything out. I've never posted about these, so I thought this would be a great time to do it. We made two of these handsome bookshelves from old doors cut in half. They flank each side of the leather love seat and our huge map on the wall.We made them mirror images of each other, with the doorknobs facing opposite the love seat. They're topped with big, chunky molding that's meant for the exterior of a home. They're tall and lean and the details are reminiscent of a castle turret. I love how they give such presence to the room.
Now, I'm off to find some wonderful items around my house to fill them up.

    These are great! They look very sturdy and I love the idea of using a door.

    I just did some rearranging yesterday, for the exact same reason...to clean behind and under furniture. Besides, I needed to spice things up and give my living room a fresh look. It helps!

    We use plain old MDF and then put a piece across the front of the shelf to make it look thicker than it actually is.

    I really love love love this idea, I an totaly going to use it in my shop. I need bookshelves like you would not believe.Once I get them done I will post pictures. Sadly that will be after May, that seems to far away :(

    Love the door bookshelves... uno queston. Did you put the slatted backing on the shelves? Or is that your actual wall that they are leaning up against with no back? Thanks.

    The back of the shelves is a plywood that looks like pine colored beadboard.

    I really love these bookshelves. I love mine. I like to fill them full of books and mementos. When I do the books I arrange them in other ways besides tallest to shortest and straight, lay some down, take a hardback and open it slightly. Put some pictures of your family. I have my favorite cross in my relgious section. I am that big of a bookworm. I have sections.

    I have been looking for a bookshelf solution for our den/library. Like others who have commented above, I think this is my answer. I saw some beautiful old panel doors at the Habitat Home Store last week that were really inexpensive. I guess I'll have to borrow my husband's truck and head back over there.
