I love the feeling of being home! I truly enjoy being surrounded by the people I love and the things that make me happy. I am passionate about finding joy in my home---which for me has a double meaning. My home is where I find comfort and discover who I am by using my talents and abilities.
I'm an avid thrift store shopper and collector. I love to create, re-purpose, design, re-invent and build all sorts of things.
I am passionate about helping others find the joy in their homes that I do in mine. And I believe that it doesn't take a lot of cash to do it.

There is something about a throw draped over a piece of furniture that makes the room feel that much more inviting and comfortable. I wanted to achieve that same feeling on my porches, after all they're like a room---without as many walls.I went on a search to find something that would look both pretty and appropriate. With temperatures in the 90's and 100's it would look a bit odd to have a heavy throw resting on outdoor furniture. While looking through a linen rack at my local thrift store I discovered a bunch of beautifully hand painted sarongs. These would make the perfect throws for my porches! They're large, lightweight and infused with color. Now the furniture on my porches beckon one to sit in comfort, to rest for a few minutes and take in the joy and beauty of nature.
Hi Miss Joy! I alsways get so exicited when I come to your blog. I just never know what you will be up too. Because of you,I never look at an old door the same. I love that! I love your blog!
I agree with you...there's just something comfy about a throw. On my back deck that is not covered, I lay beach towels across some of my chairs. That way, if a summer storm comes up, it's ok, won't hurt them. And there's just a nice feeling about having a colorful beach towel across your legs.
Such a fabulous idea. With the temps in the 100 plus out here in West Texas, I didn't want to add a throw to my porch swing, either. If I find something like this, just for looks, I could do the same thing. I just filled my swing with pretty pillows for now.
What a good idea! You're right: the sarongs are just the right weight for this time of year. They look so homey and welcoming.
I am just LOVING your re-creation of the back porch space. And your front porch is great, too. Thanks for sharing it all with us. You never fail to inspire.
I am starting a NEW Mr. Linky party. It will begin on Aug 10th so everyone will have a week and a half to think about their first post. I have a poll up for votes on which button should be the new button. The "party" is called The Knock Off Knock Out-where THRIFTY meets creative sensation. Go over and learn more about the new weekly event and I would appreciate if you would cast your vote and HELP pick the new button design and its the last week for the July GIVE-A-Way, if you would like to be a part of that event.. I really like that white cushion on your wicker chair? Where in the world did you find it? I've been searching high and low for a reasonably priced settee cushion with not much success.
PS, I love your picture frame/beadboard tray. Very clever.

That is a great idea, adding the color of the sarong without the weight of the heavy throw:)
What a cute idea. I love it! So perfect!

What a beautiful idea! I also love what you've got hanging on your front door.
