Bookcase A-door-ation

I wanted a bookcase for my living room, not necessarily for books though. I wanted it to display my pottery collection. I had another requirement, it had to be T*A*L*L, taller than the average store bought bookcase. Oh, and another requirement, it had to have character. So there was just one thing to do. . . build it ourselves! And of course we used our favorite building material, an old door.

The sides are made from a door cut down the center.
I wanted the shelves to be bulky,
so we used stair treads. The crown molding is actually an expensive, fancy baseboard turned upside-down. And the feet came off of a coffee table from the thrift store.
Now that's what we call re-purposing!!!!

This is fantastic! Where do you find your old doors???

I've found doors at thrift stores, and on the curb when people are throwing them out. Another good place to find old doors are door & window replacement companies because they often haul away the customers old door.

Wow! This is beautiful. I absolutely love it. My husband would kill me if he know I found your site. I've just barely started dabling with re-purposing furniture and you've given me the boost I need to do more.

I was just looking at an empty space in our dining area thinking I need bookcases (or something). I was trying to come up with how to dress up unfinished pine and seeing yours has given me hope!
Your projects are amazing. A++ to your and your DH on a fab job.

Now, details please on all the great pieces showcased on you bookcase. :)

A few years ago it was the trend to collect white McCoy pottery. I liked the look but didn't like the price. I found a similar look in Haeger pottery, so I started that collection. Unfortunately, now Haeger has become the trend and it's getting harder to find. Arrgh!

I want one of these but not handy enough to actually make my own! It's gorgeous! Love the color too..what is it?

The paint color is called Burnished Pewter. It's an historic color from Kwal Paint stores.

FAB-U-LOUS! I love your projects using doors. I need to show my hubby your shelf. He's built furniture for me before, but never with doors. Love it!

Oooooohhh! I LOVE this! What a fabulous idea! I've used old doors for other projects, but never to build a cabinet!!! I'll definitely have to file that creative bit of genius away! :)
