That's not really the picture you'll see at my home. It's more like dad calling mom, who is shopping at the grocery store buying store made salads and other last minute picnic items. She answers the phone and hears, "Honey, pick up some more hot dogs, I just set the brats and burgers on fire and now all we have to eat is charcoaled meat."
Oh well, at least we built a great picnic table for those occasions. It's nice and big, measuring seven and half feet by three and a half. We covered the wood with galvanized sheet metal so that it's weather proof, although my husband jokes that in the noon day sun you can cook an egg on it while you're getting a suntan (that problem is easily solved with a table cloth).
Ahhhh, Summertime memories!

What a great table idea. And I can totally relate to getting those phone calls at the store. Seems like everything we need for a cookout is everything we don't already have in the fridge! :o)
You're lucky to have an outdoor dining space. Neat idea with the galvanized top, makes for an easy clean up too.
We rarely eat outside due to an unfinished patio project and dive bombing wasps! Nasty creatures.
Love the topping the table with sheetmetal idea. How easy to clean is that?! Your husband sounds like mine. Too funny.

I love your picnic table! I actually new someone who had a dining table custom made with a steel top that looked very similar. Great idea for outdoors!

Hi, first time posting on your blog, usually I'm a lurker, but I had to find out about that steel top. We are trying to find a solution to a very large countertop issue. Was it hard to do?
