Have a Seat in My Foyer

Look at my Pottery Barn chair. I snatched it up at a thrift store for three bucks a few months back. I had no clue where I'd put it, but who could pass up that price! When I got it home I noticed that one back leg had been broken, but it's been repaired well and is nice and solid.
Last week after I moved my table into the foyer, the chair that was there looked out of place. So I washed the cover of my PB chair, and sanded and painted the legs black. Now it has a prominent place in my home.
While we're in my foyer, let me show you around. This area measures 8 feet by 11 feet. It's a great size, but there are doors and openings on every single wall, which makes it a bit of a challenge to decorate. This is the backside of my front door. When we moved here, there was a door and a separate long window. We replaced it with this door and side lights, which was a nightmare job for our poor carpenter. My hubby and I put up all the decorative molding. I really wanted to make a statement on this wall. We put lighting in the crown molding. It makes for a cozy light during the day, as well as at night. This little piece was on my doorstep one day. My neighbor was helping her daughter de-clutter and she thought I might like this. I do!
My hubby and I were given permission to remove this mail slot and elevator button from a very old hotel just before they demolished it years ago. Little kids always ask if my closet is an elevator. Wouldn't that be nice.
Well, that's it for today. But I'm thinking that my new chair needs a little something sitting right next to it, so I'm off to work on tomorrow's post.
Make it a good day!

Joy,
Your foyer is beautiful...love the crown molding. That is funny about the elevator button...neat that you got to have those two items. I can't wait to see what you put with that wonderful chair!

I'm so jealous of your large foyer, that's the size of a bedroom. I also like the addition of the lights in the crown moulding, very clever idea. Love the chair (what a great thrift store you shop at), the elevator button (how fun) and mail slot.
Have a great day!

well, that chair is definatly the DEAL of the year!!

And that elevator button....toooooooo cool! I acutally grew up with a friend that had an elevator in a closet because her sister was in a wheelchair, but we would play in it all the time! :) hehe

Your foyer is so welcoming and calm. Mine is always covered with dirt from kids shoes and well, lots of kids shoes thrown around! I'll take some pictures sometime and show you! Until then, I'm going to be dreaming of entering my house and having it look just like yours!

Enjoyed the tour of your foyer. It is lovely. I like the way you painted the inside of your front door black. I may have to do that to mine. What a great deal on a great chair.

I love it all, and I really love the elevator buttons and the mail box. My kids would be pushing that button waiting for the elevator to arrive all the time.

Love the chair (great deal!) and clock in your foyer. The molding you put up is beautiful. I'll have to talk to my hubby about doing that too. Molding makes such a difference for not a whole lot of money. The elevator button is so clever!

I love the mail slot and elevator buttons!
I picked up a doorknob set from the old B&O railroad offices a few years ago and I thought my husband would have a fit when I begged for them to be put in our front door!
love, love, love vintage touches like that!
