Today we're going to start out small.
I love botanical prints. I felt pretty lucky when I found these two at the thrift store. Technically, you are looking at an "after" picture of them. Originally the frames were gold. I like them much better in black. But, the frames are thin and I really like nice wide frames.
I found some frames for two dollars a piece. They must have come from a historical building because they all had old photos with the dates. I took the frames apart and painted the frames and the mat boards. 
When everything was dry, I placed the prints inside the newly painted frames. I like the look of the "after-after" much better.
I thought you might enjoy a close up of one of the original photos. It's a picture of a grocery store in 1910 during Thanksgiving.
Seeing this, made me very thankful that when I purchase my Thanksgiving turkey this year, it will be wrapped in a protective plastic, not hanging upside-down from a wooden beam.Yes, one more convenience in life to be grateful for!

I never would have thought to paint a mat! I love the finished look. I, too, like wide frames.

The after after is really nice. But I also love the old photo...you are going to keep it aren't you???
Seeing the turkeys-I would be a lot thinner if I had to cook with that stuff looking like that!

Those look BEAUTIFUL in their new AFTER frames!!!! I can't wait to see all your black spray painting projects. I am frustrated cause I need some black primer and I can't find any in my small town...ARGH! I have one more place to go......

I love the frames! I have so many frames, all different colors, and I want to spray paint them, but they just don't come out very well. I'd love it if you'd do a spray paint tutorial for dummies like me.
Yes, the wide frames make the prints look much more striking. Now you should do something wonderful with those old prints!

I LOVE this...and WHAT a SCORE...ALL that paint. You rock! I spent the whole beautiful weekend pulling things out of my shed and giving them a new look with paint. I wore gloves but sometimes that darn spray paint leaks through---thus...I have a hunter green index fingernail.
I love the look of the "after - after" much better, I am with ya on the wider frames.
Yes, thank goodness for turkeys in plastic wrap!

Your weather must be co-operating if you're going through two cases of spray paint. I'm taking advantage of calm winds and warm temps to spray two chandeliers. Hope the weather holds out as I think I need one more day.
The fatter frames really make a statement. I thought they looked nice before but "wow" what a difference.
If I had to buy a turkey like that, we'd never eat 'em. It's bad enough wrestling with a cleaned up version to remove the "extras" from inside. ICK.

The larger frames make the prints so much more noticeable. I love the "after-after." And can we just say gross abotu the old picture of the grocery store??? The turkey picture is crazy! Ha! Ha! My how things have changed, I wonder what they thought about salmanella then? :o)

That's a simple project I think I can try. I've been really wanting to try some spray painting but too afraid I might just ruin a thing. I think a frame like that would not really be such a waste if I mess it up and can really look great if I make it right. Thanks for sharing and you did a good job transforming there.

I really like the "after-after" a lot!! Especially the interior black edging of the mat board. Looks perfect with your decor!

Joy, I just love everything you do! One question though: what paint do you use? And where do you live that it's still warm enough to spray paint? I'm so jealous! I have some stuff I'm dying to paint and it's too cold now in Toronto. Boo.
love the after too :) What kind of paint do you paint the mat boards with?? I have two old whitewashed frames I love (but want to paint) and the mat boards are a cream and the mauve color(very 80's)lol I love all your "afters" :)
