Finding Treasures

Saturday was such a crazy busy day! We spent the morning helping with a neighborhood clean-up. Then I had groceries to buy and last minute Easter goodies to purchase. It seems that this year every store sold out plastic eggs, which meant, because I am a procrastinator, I had to go to more stores than I had planned. I prepared items to bring to a big family dinner that evening. Once we returned, there was house cleaning and more holiday and dinner preparations for Sunday. It was a very busy day! But would you believe that I actually found some time to stop in the thrift store? Yes, I did.
I have these wonderful treasures to prove it.
There is another treasure I found at the thrift store, but I can't show you. It isn't something I purchased. Saturday I found myself getting grumpy. You know how it is when you feel like you have to do it all and be it all, and with a holiday it seems those feelings are multiplied. Well, I decided that I wanted to break
the grumpy mom cycle.
I knew that the reason I had the uglies was because "the well" was getting dry. By that I mean, I was so busy doing for others that there was little left for me. So I took a few minutes to
"fill the well."

Do you do that?
Do you take time to give to yourself so that you have more to give to others. It's taken me YEARS to learn---aahhh, I'm still trying to learn that when I take the time to
do something special
that makes me feel good, it's much easier for me to do things for others to make them feel good. It doesn't have to involve spending money. It can be as simple as closing the bedroom (or bathroom) door for a few minutes of quiet time alone, going for a walk, or sitting on the lawn reading a favorite magazine.
We all know what makes us feel better, those treasures that refresh our souls.
I hope you take some treasured time today,
and everyday,
to fill your well.

Hi Joy,
You are so right...treasures are often not things and can come at unexpected moments. I've had some of the same feelings the past few days that you've had.

I need to find some 'treasure' time today!

Oh Joy I absolutely filled my well yesterday. Last night I sat in a warm, bubble bath and read, all alone for about an hour! It was heaven on earth!!!♥

The Lord has dealt with me on my need to have everything perfect when serving others, in my home, as an appearance, etc... While I saw it as trying my best for others, He revealed it to me as a pride issue - ouch! Thanks for the reminder!

Holidays always give me those same feelings. I need to get over it somehow and enjoy the times with my family. Easier said then done! Glad to know I'm not alone. Sally

Probably the reason for my current funk...the well is dry!

Isn't this true for all women? Especially mother's? After ten years of marriage and 3 kids later I am too realizing that this is extremely important for me and for my family. It is also important for your children to see that you care enough about yourself to do this (time for yourself). I went and got a custard slushy today! It was to die for! Yummy!

I absolutely agree with you about filling the well. I had an exhausting weekend visiting family out of town and didn't have a chance to have any "me" time, so I told myself that I can do whatever I want tonight to refill the well. It's soooo important. Like they say, "If mom's happy, everyone's happy".

I swear, Joy girl, you are like medicine to my soul...Every time I come here, I go away feeling good..
I have 'filled my well' all day long today and didn't even know I was doing it until I came by here this evening. I worked so hard all week for the Easter lunch with our kids and grands that I decided I would just rest, watch movies, eat, blog, eat, rest, watch movies
ALL DAY LONG. Now, tomorrow, I will be able to face the world again..
hugs, bj

Great post! Really got me thinking as we are under major construction here. Well, not so major, just a bathroom that was torn apart to the studs for the last 18 months. Just trying hard not to be a high maintenence wife while I wait for my sweet hubby (AKA bishop) to finish when he gets a spare minute and dollar.

Absolutely. I try to tell my daughters the same thing. You'll be a better wife and mommy if you take time for yourself. Mimi

Oh I do know exactly what you mean about taking time to refresh yourself. I have to remind myself to do the same, which usually happens when the well runs dry-hard to not let it go that long isn't it? Took me years to figure that one out too-keep up the good work sister! Smiles-Tam!

Now THAT's wisdom! Surprisingly, there are few people who really understand this concept.
