Tell Me I'm Not Alone

Please tell me that I'm not the only one who plans to mail out Christmas cards and then runs out of time. The sad fact is that this has happened for the last two or three years. Did you know that some people take you off their Christmas card mailing list if they haven't heard from you in a while? I realize that many of you keep in touch with old friends using the internet but, to me, emails just can't replace the thrill of receiving a card in the mail from a loved one. This year I intended to mail my Christmas cards early but, with our son's accident and other life events, once again I ran out of time. Yet I was still determined to let old friends know that they're in our thoughts. I decided to mail New Year's cards. There is just one problem. There are no New Year's cards to be found! Hallmark really should consider making a line of cards for procrastinators like me.
I refused to let this stop me. I sketched out the numbers 2010 and cut only the outer edges for my card template.
Then I traced and cut the design onto cardstock that was folded in half. Next I printed a little sentiment and glued it inside. Now our friends will know that we still care, even if our thoughts are a bit belated.
Before it gets too late,
I want to wish you, my blog friends,
a wonderful 2010!

May the New Year Bring You Happiness,
Peace, Laughter,

and the Best of Memories.

I love them. They are gorgeous! We didn't do letters for a few years because our news was grim enough that telling it was not Christmasy and not telling it seemed to be a lie. Now I do my letters and I just do a few envelopes a day while I wait for my favorite websites to load! :D So...thanks for your part! -grin-

You are not the only one! My trouble is that my cards are already designed and half printed, and are distinctly Christmas. It seems everyone has moved on this year, so I hesitate sending them (but they were a lot of work, so I think they should be sent. :-))

Your cards are great, though! Fun idea!

Those are perfect 2010 cards! I am wishing you and your family a Happy New Year and look forward to blogging with you in 2010!♥

BThey look great! Yes I did notice that people kick you off their list if they haven't heard from you. We used to get about 40-50 Xmas cards every year and now I think I have about 15-20. Or maybe those other 20-30 people forgot to send out their cards too. I have a friend that sends out Thanksgiving cards instead of Christmas cards. She wants people to know that she is thankful for their friendship. I think that is a great idea... although I've never done it myself.

This the first year I didn't send out Christmas cards. I had them, I bought them, I even started writing a few, but I just had so much going on I never finished writing them out. I got about 15-20, where I used to get about 60. I felt bad, but something had to give and the Christmas cards lost!

Ah yes.. Late with my Christmas cards. This year they at least got out the day after Christmas. There have been some years that they were not sent til January..ok February. I did add and Happy Valentines Day too on the envelopes that year.

I was horrible this year with cards. I finally sent a few a couple of days before Christmas to my aunts and uncles and sent the rest e-cards. (so much a cop out, but at least I thought of them)

Your cards are so cute!

I forgot the most important thing!

what a brilliant idea!
i always feel so stressed to get cards out, but this year i decided that i didn't want to deal with the whole card stuff...so i didn't. and i can't tell you how much more relaxed i felt.
but doing new years cards are such a smart idea. you need to present the idea to Hallmark and get paid for your brilliant idea!
i just got a card today from some friends and they sent them out after Christmas to prove a point...that they still mean just as much now as they would if they were sent before Christmas. that's why i think new years cards are a great idea!

i hope you and your family have a wonderful new year! thanks for all you great ideas and inspiration!

You are most certainly NOT the only one. I'm with you on this!

Your 2010 cards are adorable. I'm guessing your friends will love getting them.

Happy New Year to you!

I bought cards, had to take them back, then never got around to trying again. I think last year was the only time I got Christmas cards out. I like the idea of Happy New Years cards. And I like how you made them. I'd almost rather be wished a Happy New Year than a Merry Christmas because I need a happy year WAY more than I need a cheery holiday:)

These are perfect!
I'm recieving more and more New Year's Cards in the mail. And sometimes Valentine cards!!

I am like you....I sent out over 50 cards this year and got 20 back. I did get a couple of email cards...but I don't really like that. I think that once a year for close family and friends it is not too much to send a REAL card!
But, I think we are a dying breed...just like handwriting.

I so agree about e-cards. Not the same as receiving one in the mail, holding it your hand. I was talking with a friend who asked if we are getting less and less cards each year. Sadly, yes. I hope this isn't a dying tradition! I think New Year cards are a great idea! And, for those of you who still haven't mailed your already-purchased Christmas cards, go ahead and send them! It's never to late to hear from a friend.

My mom has sent out "Christmas Cards" dressed in hearts and red and pink on the next card holiday Valentines!! People have more time to sit and look at them and enjoy them more then anyway!!

Oh my goodness, here I am still looking at the Christmas card that I wrote to my friends that need some addresses still sitting on my nightstand. Oh brother! I am such a slacker! Cute idea of yours. I am not that talented!

My Christmas cards are sitting in the junk drawer! We ended up not being able to afford to send them (I found a website where you got 50 for free). I'm glad I'm not the only one!

What a great idea. Happy New Year to you, too. :)

I have always wanted to do this. And since I didn't get a chance to get my cards out this year, I was planning to do the same.

I think we could start a new trend!

Cute idea! I seem to always be late with cards to, but I don't have a good excuse like you do. Maybe this is my solution :) Thanks!

I make a card using a family photo on the computer each year. This is the 11th year I have done this. I have sent mine between Christmas and New Year's several years including this year! I have shortened my list due to the cost of postage climbing! I like the Happy New Year Card idea. Maybe next year I will use that as a theme instead of making them Christmasy!
Blessings,
Lorilee

Our DIL waited until they got their little girl from China to mail her cards. They did New Year cards. I liked the idea. I love getting Christmas cards too.
Wishing you a Blessed New Year.

You are not alone! We missed the last 2 years, even though I bought paper to send out our Christmas letters both years. This year we're sending out a New Year letter. Love the New Year cards you made!

Thank you! I have been looking for New Year's cards for two weeks now and I thought I was losing my mind. I'm glad I'm not the only one! I found NY years ago and used them just for the reason you explained - I ran out of time. I had resigned myself this year to having to do a "letter" wishing people a happy New Year. This is a much cuter idea.

I hear you on this one too!

You know what's even sadder? I handmade my Christmas cards, even put the stamps on them and then...I never mailed them! The cards from last year are still in a bag to be mailed (I was pregnant at the time and procrastinating was my credo). This year I didnt even try... Maybe I'll mail them for Valentines and make everyone get a good laugh.

Oh you are so not alone! I love it. Going to do this today. Thank you Joy. I love your blog. Happy New Year to you and yours.

Melanie said...

I am so with you! I make beautiful cards every year, then forget them. There they sit on the counter without stamps. Each year, I vow to send them out next year. BUT this year, I attended a card making swap and mailed them out mid-November! Happy Holidays!

Kimberly said...

me too! I was thinking of making new years cards my tradition instead.

Kendra said...

Hmm. I wanna be like you! That is a great idea!

Love your cards!!!

I missed the boat on getting Christmas cards out this year. So... I had intended to send New Year's Cards.... that didn't happen either.

So... I'm shooting for Valentine's Day!!! Hee hee!!!

Kim said...

I know of several people who send out New Years cards & also, one family who sends out Valentine's cards instead.

By the way, I'd love to receive a late Christmas card rather than none at all. Its such fun to get them, I don't care if its a few weeks late. And, anyway, epiphany has even come yet, so it's technically still Christmastime!

I'm still sending out our cards, working on them a bit per day, even though I had the family pictures in them in July this year. And, I'm having to include last years picture & newsletter since those didn't get sent out, either. I've received more cards after Christmas this year than ever before. One friend does a "Happy Groundshog Day" card every year in Feb.
