Updated China Cabinet and a KILZ Giveaway

***GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED***
A few months ago the people with KILZ

asked me if I wanted to try their newly launched zero-VOC primer, KILZ Clean Start. Of course I'm always willing to try out any new product---especially one that makes painting easier and doesn't have a strong smell.I've been wanting to update my built-in china cabinet, to give it a fresh new look. Years ago hubby and I added trim and crown molding to this cabinet to dress it up and hide the imperfections from it's original contractor build. I then painted the original sad looking oak a beautiful dark green with copper highlights. Wanting to freshen it up with a lighter paint color KILZ Clean Start was the perfect product since it's always good to use a primer when painting a lighter color on top of a darker. Priming first means less top coats and less chance of shadowing or bleed-thru from the darker paint. The KILZ went on smooth and there was hardly any odor. . . No, the KILZ people did not pay me to say this. They gave me a gallon of paint and I'm giving you my honest opinion about it.
I'm really happy with the china cabinet's new look!
The people at KILZ want to give
one lucky Joys of Home reader
their own gallon of KILZ Clean Start.
All you need to do to win is leave a comment here
and tell me the project you'd like to use KILZ Clean Start.
For an additional entry go to the KILZ Facebook page,
"like" them then come back here
and leave an additional comment.
The giveaway will be open until midnight (MT)
Wednesday, January 25th.
The winner will be announced soon after.

I have a few projects I need to use some Kilz on - including my bathroom ceiling - great way to block out the moisture. I would love to try this out.

I will be moving in a few months, and absolutely none of my furniture matches. My first project would be my coffee/end tables in the living room, and long dresser I plan to convert to a media cabinet.

I'd used Kilz to paint over my daugther's icky brown walls (it was previously a boy's room - so you can imagine!)and give her a hot pink polka dot wall with the other 3 walls being a lemon color! It would match her spunky personality perfectly :)

What a great makeover Joy! Love the new look. Please enter me in the Kilz giveaway. I'd use it on my oval writing desk, a 6 legged table that has a damaged top surface and a chest of drawers that all need makeovers! It would give them all a new lease on life.

I love Kilz. That being said, I am a little skeptical about this product. We tried a different companies low VOC paint and we HATED it! The first coat went on and we thought the paint was defective. The second coat looked better, but we still weren't thrilled.
Hopefully Kilz makes a much better product!

I have a beautiful, old armoire in my craft room that could use some Kilz! I'd love to win! :)

I could use a gallon of Kilz. I'm ready to redo my guest room that was glazed with oil based paint in green. It seems like there is always a project if you own a house. I admit I like it. I love the creative process and enjoy doing things myself...most the time anyway.

Great job on your china buffet! I would love to give my bedroom dresser a new look.

Great project Joy! I could use this Kilz to update two small occasional tables so they look like they go together in my living room.

About eight years ago, I worked doing home rehabs, where I was introduced to Kilz .. now, well I won't do any type of painting without it. To narrow it down to one specific project I have in mind this year - well can't do that. I will be refinishing my stairs, painting my two filing cabinets, and refinishing my dining room chairs. Kilz will be used in ALL of these projects! :)

Thanks for the chance to win!

I'm always on the lookout for a new project to paint. Probably need to work on baseboards next.

I'd like to use Kilz to prime an inexpensive unfinished entertainment center. They used different kinds of wood which makes it look very sloppy, so a stained finish won't work. Kilz ought to even it all out so my cobalt blue will look stellar.

I love Kilz primer and paint. I used lots and it compared to Benjamin Moore !! Then WalMart stopped carrying it and I can't find it in Albuquerque. Boo Hoo. I have lots of projects to paint including a curio cabinet, night stand & dresser.

johna said...

I would use it on some old floor boards that we are re-using. I plan on sanding the "gunk" off, prime and paint, we are going to use them on the ceiling of our porch.

I would want to use it on all the walls of my home because the former occupants were all smokers and the walls have that stained look that walls get when a house is smoked in.

I have a couple of projects calling my name. the first being the dresser in my little guys room, and the island in my kitchen would be so fun to makeover. (or at least it would be fun AFTER it was madeover.)

I painted The bottom of my dining room and my Island in the Kitchen a dark cranberry. But I'm Finding it is to dark. The top is a yellow with a hint of green. I would love to try the primer so I can paint it over the cranberry to lighten up the space. With a soft Green.

we're in the process of buying a house, and it will need some paint, in every room. luckily it's not too bad that we have to do it all at once, but it would be nice to not to keep the DARK blue/greens in what will be our daughters room
