A ReRun

I'm trying to get some big projects started since we should have a few days of "spray paint weather." I didn't want to leave you without a post so I thought I'd share a tip that I posted back when my blog wasn't even a month old. I use this tip every time I put together a vignette.

You've heard the decorating tip that when you group objects together you should group in odd numbers because it's more pleasing to the eye. But, do you know the importance of the triangle in design? I read this tip years ago and it has proved to be very helpful. When I put together a vignette and stand back to admire my work, if something looks just a little off, I use the triangle rule. Does my design form a triangle? Does it have the proper height and balance? Usually if I rearrange things, keeping this rule in mind, it makes the difference between "just okay" and "just right!"

So next time your display doesn't quite have the WOW factor that you're looking for, remember the power of the triangle. If you recall those days from high school algebra, you know that all triangles are not created equal. The beauty of this rule is that your design can form an equilateral, isosceles, right(or left) triangle and it works. You can even layer your triangles for more flare. It's all about height and balance.
AAAHHH! Triangle Power!

Hi Joy, I'm very vignette challenged and need all the help/tips I can get.
I had to smile when I read that you're waiting for a few good days of spray paint weather. Even though I'm not an avid sprayer, I do have to wait for those less than windy days to do so. I see you got a couple of lamps done the other day though. I rarely see lamp pairs, you were very fortunate to find not one, but two pairs. I'm convinced you live in a thrifters paradise since you tend to find such great stuff.
I shouldn't have stopped blogging so I could show you the awesome chandelier I found last weekend. I took some of the pieces off, cleaned it and taped off the electrical so it's ready for a black satin paint job. The weather turned on me, so now I wait.
If you want to drop me an email, I'll send you a before pic.

Take care and thanks for keeping in touch.

That's a great tip. I never really thought about it, but I do tend to arrange things with what I call "symmetry." I guess I was using the triangle rule and didn't even know it!

still no internet @ home, but i'm catching up on your blog and I don't know how I live w/o it! I finally moved into the new home and am in the process of decorating it. I may look for your professional opinion soon. hubby & i are having decorating clashes. I'm very traditional and he's very rustic. He wants to put antlers on top of my curio cabinet that holds my angel collection!! He's gone mad! any how, I don't know how you are soo full of ideas and interesting "out of the cone" concepts.
