I've been searching through my stash of knobs. I like to buy interesting knobs when I find them at thrift stores, and when they're on sale or clearance at craft and hardware stores. Knobs can be pricey, that's why I'm always on the lookout for good deals.
Changing knobs, and other hardware, is the easiest way to update a piece of furniture or the cabinets in your home. I always advise people to change out their knobs and pulls to give their home a more up-to-date look. Even if you can't afford to buy new hardware, you can afford a can of spray paint. All you need to do is take off your old hardware and give it a really good cleaning. Apply a coat of good primer. When it's dry, apply a couple of coats of one of the metallic finish spray paints. You'll be amazed at how different your cabinets look with updated hardware.
I like to change the hardware on my furniture too, to give it a bit more character.
I've changed the knobs on my antique sideboard.I put an over-sized knob on my entry table.I changed the hardware on the armoire in my bedroom from this:(Seriously, how can you pull open a big ol' door using that little thing)
To this:Today I changed out the knobs on a dresser in the guest room that belonged to my grandmother. Doesn't it look pretty sitting in front of those gray walls. Am I going to paint it? Not on your life! As much as I love painted furniture, I want this piece to look close to what it did when my grandmother used it. Years ago, when this dresser was in our master bedroom, I loved the look of the white porcelain knobs. My decor, at the time, was a little bit country. Now I want to give the dresser knobs that are more classic and traditional.

I love knobs too, but I don't have any. I want to get some to hang things from, pictures, letters, whatever it may be. Thanks for sharing you Knob Snob. :-)
You sure have a bunch of great knobs. I think I will have to keep my eyes open for knobs now!! I LOVE the new knobs on the dresser...beautiful!♥
Thanks for posting this. I love knobs and although my collection has yet to be started (hubby think I'm crazy), I'm always attracted to them. I once went to an antique store in Louisville, KY and they had great knobs. Some were super cheap, some were expensive (but oh so pretty!).
You know I never thought to collect knobs. You sure have a wonderful collection. I am going to go and look for some now. lol Love the glass ones on the dresser it is just gorgeous. As with the rest of them.

Glass knobs are my favorite. I only have fake ones :( They look amazing on your dresser. What a great update
What a difference those knobs made on the dresser! Looks great. Mimi
Hello!
Knobs are fun and such an easy way to change something up! Great knobs you have found.
:)
I love knobs as well...I have clear glass knobs in my kitchen cabinets and drawers, blue glass knobs on the dining room buffet, and big round, wooden knobs on my dressers.

What kind of primer do you use? I so want to try this!
Wow, were you ever lucky to find that bag of glass antique knobs. I love them.
Blessings,
Sher
Fun! I love hardware! Thanks for sharing you before and after photos. The dresser looks so much nicer!

After running across your blog a couple days ago and reading
EVERY.
SINGLE.
POST.
and loving every single minute... I was actually going to email you with pictures of furniture I've inherited from my grandma wondering what you'd do with it - leave it as is, refinish it, or paint it. This post was meant to be...
I still will email after I take photos. I'd LOVE your thoughts.
Thanks!!
You are a Knob Snob! :) I think your knobs are awesome! I have a thing for lamps...I guess you could call me a lamp tramp...:) Lol! I miss you! How have you been? Meme
Love all your knobs! Your right they can be pricey. I never thought about buying them up when I see cute ones on sale. Great idea!
Wow you have a lot of knobs! I agree, they make such a huge difference. I never thought of just buying them and then stashing them for that perfect opportunity to change them out and make a statement. Good idea!!
I love knobs. Home depot expo is going out of business so you can bet I will be there!
Grandma would love those glass knobs :)
I had a dresser just like that old one of your grandmother's...it had the swivel mirror and everything...I don't know who I gave that dresser too...wish I had it now!
Love the glass knobs.
Thanks for your help!
None of our cabinets in the kitchen OR bathrooms have knobs... isn't that so sad? I'm tempted to go out and get a drill so I can make holes JUST to be able to put knobs on them.
"Knob Snob". I love it and may have to use that phrase in the future! Another great use for knobs is to use them for hanging artwork or photo frames. You can also attach them to an extra piece of moulding or old wood to use as hooks for hanging clothing, small towels, etc.
I'm having a giveaway so make sure to stop by at Junk Sophisticate! Great blog!
Love all your personal touches! I too have changed out bunches of them in my time. Small changes make a difference!
That's quite a collection! I love the glass knobs and your grandmother's dresser. I'm sure she would love it too.
Thank you Joy for stopping by and answering my question about white linens. That's something I'm going to start switching over to. Love the look and ease of laundry. Your blog is my all time favorite. I could just move into your home. I want a bigger home to put my own spin on all your great ideas. What's your suggestions for small homes. I don't have a lot of space to make the darling vignettes you make. I do have a hutch, can use the top, and entertainment center and the top. A cut out between the stairs and kitchen. Can you talk about this? Love that you are a special ed. teacher. It make your site so much more special to me.
WOW...I've missed a lot of (beautiful)goin' on here since I last visited. I LOVE your header decorations and all the wonderful things you made and decorated with for this fun holiday. The white tree you found from a thrift store and put red hearts all over is So So cute! : )
Have a great week.
Hi Joy, I love knobs too! I have a dilemma though. I purchased some glass ones to replace the ones on my daughter's dresser. But it turns out that the painted area from the original ones is larger than the new ones. Any suggestions on what I can do without having to paint the dresser?
Thanks!
those knobs are lovely! I agree that updated hardware makes a world of difference!
I've been comptemplating a knob change on my bedroom furniture. This may be just the motivation I need!!!
That's a great idea to have a knob stash. They ARE expensive so when you run across a good deal, it's smart to grab them. Love the look of the glass knobs on your nice furniture piece.
I so agree with you're knob collection. At my favorite flea market there is a booth of nothing but knobs, and I never come out of there empty handed. The glass knobs on the dresser are the perfect match for it
the glass knobs make such a difference. So very pretty!
I LOVE knobs, too. A few weekends ago, we went to the ReStore here in town and I hit the mother load of knobs! I bought a TON of knobs, and they were all 25 cents each and new! I couldn't believe that price. I was just tickled pink.
