Be My Guest

This may look like a continental breakfast for house guests but it was just a little Sunday morning treat for my family. I thought it would be nice to spoil them a bit and treat them like guests.
Embracing a beautiful lifestyle
doesn't have to cost a lot.
All of the food was bought on sale. All of the serving dishes came from the thrift store.
I enjoyed giving my family a little surprise that was easy, delicious, and pleasing to the eye. Their reaction? One son told me he was disappointed because there wasn't any waffles. Did I let his comment take away from the happiness that I received by creating the treat? No, but next time I'll know who to assign the task of making waffles.

For those who wanted to know how I made the monogram wreath on yesterday's post, it was made with the leftovers from this wreath. I just wired them onto a wooden form of the letter A.

Joy,
This is awesome! I try to do things like this for my family but certainly not enough! One of my favorite memories of childhood was an afternoon when my mom served me a treat of canned pears with mini chocolate chips on top in a beautiful antique etched-glass serving dish. No reason--just a special treat. The pears and chocolate chips were all she had to work with at the moment, but I am sure gald she did!
Thanks for sharing your talent and creativity with us all. It is a blessing.

Joy, it looks so beautiful! I, too, have been doing little things like this for my family. One morning I had an assortment of muffins and breads and, as my son described, displayed them like in a bakery. I had to laugh at what your son said -- mine would've said that, too!

We do things like this too - check out my blog and see the fancy dinner my kids made for us! The post "You're invited" one or two posts down. It is their idea of fancy and they prepared it all themselves! We have made homemade donuts on a saturday morning and ate on fancy dishes and drank juice from stemware. I love occasionally doing something to make everyone feel special.

ummm, this really looks great. I do this when some of my grands are spending the night with us. Luscious berries, cinnamon rolls, cheesy eggs or waffles...it brings joy to me to make the things they love to eat.

This is a great idea. Sometime we forget to include our own families.
I'm going to polish my silver right now!

One Mother's Day my sons decided to make me breakfast in bed....I heard their usual arguing - they were about 12 and 15 - then I heard my older son Todd yell "I told you it wouldn't work!!!!". Rest over. I came downstairs to a very upset Matt who said "Mom, I'm sorry - I didn't know you couldn't make an omelette in the waffle iron!". Love them more every day!!!
