Sorrow In Our Home

On Friday March 30th I received a phone call from my number 2 son. I immediately felt there was something seriously wrong as I heard the words, "Mom, I need you to stay calm." My oldest three sons and my husband were just beginning to enjoy a fun afternoon together when tragedy struck our family. My dear husband had just finished telling my boys that he wasn't feeling well when he fell to the ground. One look at their father and the boys knew that things were critical. Number 1 son began CPR while Number 2 son called 911. My boys fought so hard to keep their dad alive but our Father in Heaven had different plans.

My loving husband died on a beautiful, sunny day surrounded by three of our four sons. Our family is devastated. We miss him so very much! He was a man who loved life and especially loved his family. He was a devoted and supportive husband, a hard worker, had a great sense of humor, and was always positive. He had a firm testimony of his Savior and lived by His example.
He was a friend to everyone he met. He left a great legacy for our five children and for everyone who knew and loved him. His life manifested his belief in service, hard work, respect, friendship, goodness, forgiveness, gratitude, laughter, and love.

His passing has left a great hole in my heart. My beloved hubby supported me, believed in me, and most of all he loved me in spite of me. Joys of Home blog is what it is because of his support and belief in me. He was always by my side as we built projects, and built our family and our life. He held one end, I held the other, and together we made sure things were level. I am not sure what my future holds without him visibly by my side, but I take comfort in knowing that our love and his life is eternal. I am so grateful to have this assurance and to know that God has a plan for me and for my family and He wants us to be happy even in tragedy.

I deeply miss the dear, sweet man
who has been by my side for 33 years.
I love him with all my heart.

Goodbye Mr. Joys of Home.

Oh my goodness! I am so sorry for your loss! I can't imagine losing my sweetheart, and we've only been married 8 1/2 years!!

Take comfort in the Gospel and the peace of eternal families through the sealing power of the priesthood.

You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

So sorry To hear about the loss of your dear husband. A couple months ago my 13 year old daughter found our neighbor in his back yard. I called 911 and gave him CPR until the paramedics arrived. He passed away the following day (on his wife's 50th birthday). He'd had a massive heart attack. It was very hard moitionally for our family. I can understand a a little bit of what your going through although I can't imagine losing my husband. My thoughts and prayers are with you family. So grateful for our knowledge of the gospel and eternal families!

Susan said...

I am so sorry to read your post. Five years ago this month, I was in your place.My beloved hubby died quickly of a massive heart attack. He was all of 42 when he passed away.

Some advice that I found helpful-make no major decisions for at least a year. Do NOT take his name off the mortgage loan, should you have one. Same thing with car insurance and bank accounts.

People will say STUPID things-" I can't imagine if it we ME, etc" "I know how you feel-because I lost a mom/dad/sister/cousin/dog" ( I finally said to someone once that unless they were sleeping with that person, they had NO idea what it felt like!)

There is a website called the Young Widows Bulletin Board that was a BIG help. People to give advice, people to "talk" to, and just some well written stories by and for people who get it-people who are at all different stages of widowhood. I still visit the site on occasion.

Again, I am SO sorry that your family is going through this. Take the time to grieve in your own way, and don't let anyone rush you/question you and your boys in the way they need to walk through this dark valley.

I am living proof that there can be joy in one's life again, even after tragedy. Please know that while you will be forever changed, you will NOT be forever broken in spirit.

I am so terribly sorry for your nearly unbearable loss. 11 months ago my husband , age 57, survived a LAD heart attack , after being shocked time after time, and having surgery within minutes after that, I so wish your husband had been spared also, we do not understand why God allows some to live on here on earth, but others He takes home to be with Him. You are in my prayers.

My heart breaks for you and your family. May you find comfort in the thoughts and prayers of family, friends and total strangers, like myself.

A poem I found online---

Look for me in Rainbows
Time for me to go now, I won't say goodbye;
Look for me in rainbows, way up in the sky.
In the morning sunrise when all the world is new,
Just look for me and love me, as you know I loved you.

Time for me to leave you, I won't say goodbye;
Look for me in rainbows, high up in the sky.
In the evening sunset, when all the world is through,
Just look for me and love me, and I'll be close to you.

It won't be forever, the day will come and then
My loving arms will hold you, when we meet again.

Time for us to part now, we won't say goodbye;
Look for me in rainbows, shining in the sky.
Every waking moment, and all your whole life through
Just look for me and love me, as you know I loved you.

Just wish me to be near you,
And I'll be there with you.

I'm sorry is probably the words that you do not want to hear at this time. I'm sure that you have heard them enough.

I have followed your blog for quite a few years and your sight as helped me get through many long, dark days and nights. About 3 years ago, my husband, who was in the military passed away leaving me with 2 young children and an older one. At that time, I was a stay at home mom and didn't know how I would make it through everything. But, I did from the support of my church friends and through the grace of GOD, which I sooo heavily leaned onto. I want to encourage you, that you will heal and you will survive and life doesn't look like it use to, but there is always blessings and rainbows as time goes on.

I am so far behind on my blogs and I am just now reading this. I can not imagine what you and your family are going through, but please know that I am praying like crazy for you. You are such a strong and inspiring woman and I know you can make it through this, even though it will take time. I am so incredibly sorry for your loss.

May you feel the loving arms of the Savior around you as you grieve and the power of the atonement as you heal. I too experienced the loss of my husband at a relatively young age. I testify that he will be by your side as you continue forward alone.

We've never met but I feel as though I know you. I normally read you blog but don't add comments. This time, I couldn't let the opportunity go by. I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your husband. The Lord's plans too often don't coincide with ours and it takes a great deal of faith to say "thy will be done". May the Spirit be with you when you are lonely or angry or unhappy. May you grow closer together as a family. And may you always remember that families are forever. I wish you the peace that comes from your faith in Jesus Christ. Thank you for the lift you have given to your readers over the many years. We will now return the favor by keeping you and your family in our prayers.

I am so very sorry to read this. I lost my eldest granddaughter March 4; she was 18 and ready to graduate from high school. Sometimes I feel consumed with sorrow and loss as you probably do as well. Please let me share one of my favorite songs with you, a Christian song by Mercy Me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxqfDs-64I0

God bless you and your family.

Dearest Joy,
It's okay to be sad and to cry. It's okay to be happy and to laugh. It's okay to do nothing, to have a blank stare, to scream, to weep,to eat a lot and to not eat. It's okay to question, to remember, to feel that your heart is literally breaking, it's okay to feel selfish, to want to be alone, to talk, to sit in silence. It's okay to feel as though no one else knows this feeling. It's okay to feel nothing today and God's love tomorrow. I am truly sorry for your loss, that you lost a part of you, and that your heart aches. I hope you find a little bit of peace sometime soon and that you know that you have "friends" that keep you and your family in their prayers.
With love,

I'm so sorry for the (earthly) loss of your husband. I have been out of the blog-sphere for a few months and just read your blog today. I'm so shocked that he left you so suddenly, but am so grateful that you are sharing your testimony of eternal families even through your grief. I love your blog, and all your decorating ideas, so I hope that someday you will start up again. Until then, know that we are thinking and praying for you and your family.
